Kinneil Estate is in the spotlight as Falkirk Council considers its future.

The new, draft masterplan for the Estate (under consultation as of July 2025) is available here.

Following a consultation period, an updated plan, is due to be discussed by councillors in November 2025.

However, the Friends of Kinneil charity – critical of the new plan – has asked councillors to delay approving it, saying it needs more work.

Crucially, the future of Kinneil Museum is still under discussion – with plans outlined to close the facility in the spring of 2026.

Community activists hope Historic Environment Scotland can take over the building – however, that’s not been agreed.

There are also questions about the contents of Kinneil Museum, and where it can be redisplayed in the community. This is still under discussion as of October 2025.

In considering any new vision for Kinneil, it’s also worth looking back . . .
